I’ve been going through my archives a bit lately and wanted to share some images I haven’t yet posted. REO Speedwagon was out on the road with Ted Nugent (click to see photos) and Styx (click to see photos) on the Midwest Rock ‘N Roll Express Tour. I had the opportunity to shoot all 3 bands when they stopped by the Huntington Center in Toledo, OH.
As a musician myself who grew up on 70’s and 80’s classic rock, this show was a lot of fun to shoot. There is nothing like listening to a night full of hits standing just a few feet away from some of my guitar heroes. From that vantage point, you get to see a lot of the interactions and expressions of the band members. I loved the fact that they were all having a ton of fun playing together even after all these years.
As I’ve been reviewing some of these older images, I’m reminded of the power of photography. While a photograph simply captures a split second moment in time, it’s power comes in the ability to transport me back to that moment no matter how much time has passed. The sights, the sounds, the smells… everything about that moment comes back to me as if it just happened. That’s just one of the many things I love about photography.
Here are a few of my favorites from that night.
