I recently stumbled across a photographer, Patrick La Roque, that just completely captivated me. I loved the look of his images and his very simple, yet engaging style. I found myself going through blog post after blog post to find out more about this guy and his art. Just insanely good work.
Funny how your emotions work sometimes. At first I was totally inspired by this guys work. Then I was completely humbled and ready to throw all my camera gear out the window. It seems like every time I think I’m an ok photographer, I find someone who’s work just completely blows me away. Well, I’m happy to report that I didn’t throw my gear out the window. Instead, I picked myself up off the floor and said to myself “I can do better.” And with that mindset, I grabbed my camera and made a few images from around the house.
One of the things I love about photography is that there is no shortage of possibilities for an image. I know I sometimes fall into that trap of thinking there’s nothing good to shoot, the light isn’t very good right now, etc… Any excuse really to just leave my camera in the bag. Well no more. Time to stop being lazy and waiting for the perfect subject in the perfect conditions.
So on a quiet Saturday afternoon, I made a few images of some of the everyday things scattered around my house. I’m not quite sure where I’m going to go with this yet, but I feel like there might be something to this theme of “everyday things.” We’ll see. Be sure to click below to see a few more of the images from this afternoon.
